The FDA has approved Nexium for the treatment of chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), also known as heartburn.
Nexium (esomeprazole) treats acid-related heartburn (heartburn and acid reflux), but also treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The active ingredient, the active ingredient in Nexium, is called Prilosec, which is also used in Prevacid (lansoprazole).

Nexium is used in children under the age of 8 years. It is not recommended to use Prilosec or other Prilosec medicines unless the doctor recommends it.
Prilosec can cause your child to have an upset stomach. If this happens, Prilosec should be taken as soon as possible.
When taking Prilosec, you should drink plenty of water while you are taking it. Taking more than the recommended amount can result in dehydration.
If you need to take Prilosec for more than 24 hours, take it as soon as you remember. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor.
If you are on a higher dose of Prilosec you may experience severe muscle pain and weakness. Tell your doctor if you have any other serious problems.
The most common side effects of Prilosec are stomach pain, indigestion, and bloating.

Purpose:The study was a randomized, controlled trial involving 14 patients with reflux disease. They were evaluated for the management of symptoms associated with the disease and their diagnosis. Patients were evaluated for their symptom diary and for their ability to participate in the study. The patients were randomly assigned into two groups. The control group was treated with a placebo for one week and a different medication for the remaining two weeks. The patients in the group assigned to the treatment group received a placebo for a further week. Patients were followed up during the study period and the patients' symptoms, the duration of symptoms and their ability to participate in the study were recorded. In the treatment group, the study took place in a hospital setting and the patients were evaluated in a double-blind clinical trial for the diagnosis of reflux disease and the management of symptoms associated with reflux.
Results:The study group was treated with the placebo for one week and the group assigned to the treatment group received the medication for one week. In the study, the patient's symptom diary showed a reduction in symptoms associated with reflux. The mean change in symptoms was 5.2. The mean time to the first symptom was 15.7 and the mean time to the second symptom was 21.8 days in the control group and the group assigned to the treatment group, respectively. In the treatment group, the mean decrease in symptoms was 5.6 and the mean time to the first symptom was 21.8 days, while the mean decrease in symptoms was 10.8. The patient's ability to participate in the study was improved in the treatment group and the mean time to the second symptom was significantly reduced (p<0.001).
Conclusion:The study was an open-label, controlled trial involving 14 patients with reflux disease who were prescribed the medication for the treatment of symptoms associated with reflux. The patients were treated with the medication for one week and the patient's symptoms and their ability to participate in the study were improved.
